摘要:DNA, the molecule of life, provides programmable and versatile routes for building up novel materials that can be used for both genetic and generic purposes. Over the last 15 years, my group at Cornell has been engineering DNA as both genetic (bio-) materials and generic (nano-) materials. In this talk, I will focus on how we have designed and developed bulk-scale, DNA-based materials for biological and biomedical applications. More specifically, I will elaborate on our branched DNA and DNA-based hydrogels and will demonstrate several real-world applications from diagnostics to pharmaceutics. For example, branched DNA was used as nanoscale barcodes for the detection of pathogens; DNA hydrogel efficiently expressed proteins in a cell-free manner; a bird-nest like DNA microsphere was created to condense and carry millions of dosages of the CpG motif for immune-stimulation. Indeed, DNA has proven to be not only the amazing molecule of life, but also a powerful and versatile molecule for biomaterials.
